The political and legal fallout, if any, from a recent audit by the state of Ohio on Clermont County is unclear at this point, after findings were made against two county commissioners for acts in office that could be deemed unethical.

Commissioners Scott Croswell and Mary Walker each received mention in the Ohio State Auditor’s report that pointed out weaknesses in the way business is done locally. The report went so far as to announce that the matter would be presented to the Ohio Ethics Commission.

“We identified a certain deficiency in internal control over financial reporting that we consider a significant deficiency,” read a portion of the report from Ohio Auditor Mary Taylor. “The results of our tests disclosed instances of noncompliance or other matters that we must report under Government Auditing Standards.”

Specifically, the report detailed a number of instances recorded in the county records that show commissioners Croswell and Walker failing to abstain from votes that would directly benefit either themselves or close family members monetarily.
