The village of Batavia has named a new chief of police and village councilperson.

On March 17, the village announced that Eric Williams will be the new chief of police and that Stephen Staton will be the new councilperson.

The village council voted Williams as the chief of police on March 10.

Williams has served as New Richmond’s chief of police for the past two years. He has 25 years of police service in Union Township, Lincoln Heights and Fairfield Township. Williams is also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

The announcement from the village said that Williams was selected for his deep-rooted connections within the region and the respect he has earned from neighboring law enforcement leaders.

“Eric Williams stood out among a competitive pool of candidates because of his existing relationships with leaders and law enforcement officials in our community and surrounding jurisdictions,” Mayor C. Scott Runck was quoted as saying. “He already has the trust and respect of his peers, which will allow him to integrate quickly and effectively into our department and the community. His background in small-town policing aligns with the Village of Batavia’s values of service, relationship-building and public engagement. In addition, Chief Williams has the experience to scale up the Village of Batavia’s public safety services as we grow.”
