Cy Richardson Jr., 81, of Batavia, Ohio, passed away on February 24, 2023, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 14, 1941, to the late Cyrus Begley and Martha (nee Frazier) Richardson, in Carter City, Kentucky. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Joyce Ann (nee Rogers) Richardson; and siblings, Charles Richardson, Carl Richardson, and Shirley Jean Richardson.

He is survived by his children, C. B. Richardson, III, and Martha Ollijean Richardson (Sam Mende); grandchildren, Sarah Joyce Mende, and Cy Mende; siblings, Ron Richardson, and Kit Richardson.

He achieved a bachelor’s degree from Berea College in Kentucky, and a master’s degree in education from Xavier University. He was a retired educator with 32 years of experience as a teacher and administrator. He has served as an elementary, high school, and vocational school teacher; elementary and high school principal; coach; high school sports official; and high school athletic director. He served as a member of the Ohio State Board of Education, State Board’s Standards Committee, and as Central Area Director of the National Association of State Boards of Education. He loved his family and his community and found great joy in helping others. He served as a Monroe Township Trustee, past president of Clermont County Township Association, and was a member of Lions Club, Farm Bureau, Masonic Lodge, and Syrian Shrine.

A visitation was held Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at E. C. Nurre Funeral Home, 177 W. Main Street, Amelia, Ohio 45102, from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. A funeral service followed the visitation at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
