Like a quarterback who won multiple and back-to-back Super Bowls and retires at the pinnacle of his career, Ken Geis has announced his retirement.
I’ve said it repeatedly and publicly: “If it weren’t for Ken Geis, Union Township would look like Detroit.” That, of course, is a reference to Detroit’s epic decline due to corruption, mismanagement, and bankruptcy in 2013. Although bankruptcy was never an issue for Union Township, corruption and mismanagement certainly had been.
It was also in 2013 that both Trustees, who won in that election year, ran on a platform of firing Ken Geis. After their successful election, I doubt if I was the only person who spoke to the new Trustees about keeping Ken Geis on as the Union Township Administrator. Fortunately, they did and a misguided campaign promise was broken.
The results of that broken campaign promise meant that Ken Geis was free to continue working his wizardry putting deals together for Total Quality Logistics, Ivy Pointe, Jungle Jim’s, West Clermont High School, Mt. Carmel Brewery, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Mercy Health Hospitals, Cincinnati Eye Institute, RJ Cinemas, Casey’s General Store, Hamilton Safe, and more.
It has long been evident to me that Ken Geis is probably the smartest man in Clermont County and likely one of the smartest men in Ohio. That is one of the many reasons that I have a great deal of admiration and respect for him. Although I am very disappointed to learn that he is leaving Union Township, I certainly wish him well in his future pursuits.
