I just obtained my master’s degree in business administration at Western Governors University Ohio and was shocked to learn recently that the Ohio House of Representatives is trying to keep Ohio students from receiving state aid while studying at the university.

As both a former foster child and homeless youth, I have had to work hard to make a successful life for myself. But through education, I’ve been able to leave behind addicted parents, get married, have a son and a career.

I was able to get an undergraduate degree at UC with the help of my then-girlfriend’s family, who let me live with them.

And when I wanted to get a master’s degree so I could move up in my career I found WGU, where I could take all my courses online and study while my little boy was asleep and my wife was at work.

Plus, the tuition at WGU, which is a nonprofit school, was a lot lower than it would have been at other schools.

We need more of these kinds of schools, not less.

It perplexes me why anyone would want to take this opportunity away from Ohioans. Many of us need a differently structured school to get to the finish line.
