On Friday, April 29, members of Batavia High School’s National Honor Society and Student Council participated in the school’s first community service event at the Batavia Swim Club. Students spent the day raking leaves, planting flowers, painting murals, washing chairs, and cleaning the kitchen at the swim club in order to help prepare for the upcoming pool season. In the past, members of the swim club would help out at their leisure but the work has gotten to be too much.
Advisors Amber Kelley and Holly Kopcha put together this service project in order to demonstrate to students the importance of giving back in their community.
At a time when students are thinking of prom, graduation and summer break, it’s important for them to remember where they come from.
The advisors hope that this day of service can become part of the culture at Batavia and will plan another event for the next school year.
