The Ridge Swim and Tennis Club has been a Batavia tradition for five decades.
Ridge Club continues tradition of fun

The Ridge Club in Batavia is continuing its tradition of providing fun in the sun for Clermont County residents.

The Ridge Club opened on Memorial Day 1957 when seven township residents and some village business owners decided to open Batavia's very first swimming and tennis club.

"In 1956, when Madeline Blocher, a stay-at-home mom, read in the local newspaper that communities and churches were opening swimming pools, she decided that Batavia should have a social gathering place," said Ridge Club president Michele Halley. "She and seven other community members, William Parson, Henry Stewart, John Rapp, Frank Molloy, Herbert Hoberg, and John Moore came together and started this non-profit club."

Since that time, the numbers of members have climbed every day, with space for a total of 250 members in any given season.

The Ridge Club offers a large sparkling swimming pool with a diving board, lighted tennis and sand volleyball courts, a basketball court, playground equipment, WiFi, a giggle box theater, a covered pavilion, and acres and acres of open green space.

"The picnic areas and the covered pavilion make the perfect spot for family cookouts, parties for teams, birthdays, and all other celebrations," Halley said. "The club also offers swimming and tennis lessons, as well as may family-oriented events."

Halley said that as Clermont County continues to grow, it is nice to know that there is still a place where friends and neighbors can get away from the crowds and traffic.

"After 50 years, we continue to offer summer recreation to families from Batavia and surrounding communities. If you choose to become a Ridge Club member, you will find that you can get involved with our full calendar of summer social events."

The Ridge Club is a non-profit, member owned facility with a $250 membership fee (plus a one time $50 initiation fee). To join the club or to get more information on its activities and services, call (513) 732-6393.
