Girls tourney play starts well

Bethel-Tate, Goshen, and Batavia’s varsity girls basketball teams began their quests for sectional tournament championships and beyond on a very successful note. Bethel-Tate got underway with a thrilling nail biter 47-45 victory over Norwood’s Indians in a Division II game played at Mason High School.

Glen Este wrestlers finish second, Amelia and Milford third in Fort Ancient Valley Conference tourney

In the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division wrestling tournament, Glen Este was the pace-setter for the two Clermont County teams gaining second place. The tournament took place at Glen Este. Harrison’s Wildcats won the tournament with 209 points, Glen Este had 143.5, Loveland 130.5, Milford 129.5, Anderson 106, and Winton Woods 51.

New Richmond Lions are the new SBC wrestling champs

New Richmond is the new champion of wrestling in the Southern Buckeye Conference. The victory ends the long domination of Western Brown’s Broncos and Blanchester’s Wildcats. The Lions (NR) amassed 221 points, Western Brown (WB) 181, Blanchester (Bl) 148.5, Goshen (G) 74.5, Bethel-Tate (BT) 60, Batavia (Bat) 54, Clermont Northeastern (CNE) 37.5, and Williamsburg (W) 12.

Rockets draw closer to conference champ title

Clermont Northeastern’s victory over Western Brown earned the Rockets at least a share of the Southern Buckeye Conference American Division championship. Milford’s loss to Winton Woods was a serious setback in the Eagles’ efforts to win the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division crown.

Goshen ladies competitive despite injuries

Goshen, Bethel-Tate, Glen Este, and New Richmond’s girls varsity basketball teams have enjoyed the most recent success on the Clermont County hardwood. Goshen’s varsity girls basketball team has been experiencing a season full of injuries, yet the Warriors have remained competitive. “The season is definitely not going the way we thought it would. We began the season with some of our starters on crutches,” said Jim Bowling, head coach of the Red and Gray.

Clermont teams earn seeded berths

Milford (Division I) and Clermont Northeastern (Division II) earned seeded berths in the sectional tournament. Most of the varsity boys basketball teams in Clermont County know who they will face in their respective opening contests of the various divisions of the sectional. Two of the county’s squads (Clermont Northeastern and Glen Este) will have to wait to see who they will face in their first games.

Bethel-Tate squeaks past Goshen 49-47

Bethel’s junior varsity had its hands full with the feisty Goshen Warriors, but won in OT 38-37. After that pre-game thriller the loud crowd in Bethel knew they were in for a fight in the varsity rematch, the first game won convincingly by Bethel in Goshen. After shaking off some jitters and bad ball handling by both teams, the game picture became clear.

Varsity bowling moves into tournament play

It’s post-season tournament time for Clermont County’s high school varsity boys and girls bowling teams. For some of the county’s squads the year has not been as good as were the pre-season expectations. Glen Este’s girls won the championship of the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Tournament.

Clermont County’s high school varsity girls basketball teams have drawn for their respective opening round game of the sectional tournament. Batavia and Glen Este’s stellar performances for the campaign were recognized by earning tournament seeds.

Batavia wrestlers expecting to finish season strong

The Batavia Wrestling Team is looking forward to a very strong finish to this year’s wrestling season. After defeating Withrow and Cincinnati Christian in their latest tri-match and placing fourth out of ten teams in the Valleyview Tournament, the team is looking forward to their next big competitions.
