Amelia, GE, Bethel boys win tourney openers

The two West Clermont schools got the county’s varsity boys basketball squads off to an impressive start in the sectional tournament. The Barons fractured Fairfield, the largest high school in the state, 44-41 in the Division I sectional that took place at Lakota West High School. The Clermont countians were in the lead at each intermission 12-11, 27-19, and 34-33.

Reynolds, Steinmetz, and Vespie are added to Amelia High School’s Sports Hall of Fame

The 2009 class of the Amelia High School Sports Hall of Fame will be inducted at the Sixth Annual Baron Bash and 19th Annual sports hall of fame induction ceremony. The Baron Bash will take place March 7, beginning at 6:30 p.m., at Receptions East (4450 Eastgate Boulevard).

Swimming sectionals began aqua trek to state meet

There were some outstanding performances turned in by Clermont County high school swimmers and divers in the sectional meets. Alex Lewis, New Richmond senior, was champion of two events in the Division II boys sectional.

UC Clermont women win ORCC; qualify for USCAA national championship tourney

For the second consecutive season, the University of Cincinnati Clermont College women’s basketball team has achieved an impressive 26-9 record. but this year is very different. This year the UC Clermont women achieved as high as eighth in the nation in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association’s rankings.

Milford, Bethel-Tate girls win tourney openers

Milford and Bethel-Tate each won their first game in the girl’s sectional basketball tournament. Milford eliminated the McAuley Mohawks 52-46 in the first game for both teams in the sectional tournament that took place at Lakota East High School. The E-Gals burst out to a 13-7 first quarter lead, but McAuley eked out an 18-17 lead at the end of the first half.

Lewis and Shinsato two-event qualifiers in state swimming

Clermont County will be well represented in the state championship swimming and diving showdowns that will take place this weekend at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton. Alex Lewis, New Richmond junior, qualified for two events in Division II.

Glen Este boys and Amelia girls qualify for district bowling

Glen Este’s boys and Amelia’s girls qualified as teams for the respective district bowling tournaments. The sectional competition took place at Mason Bowl. The best five teams qualified for the district. The host Comets were the winners with 2978 pins, Glen Este was third with 2911.

County matmen advance to district tourney

A total of 34 Clermont County high school wrestlers qualified for this weekend’s district tournaments. The county can boast of having 11 individual weight class sectional champions. In Division II the county’s teams did very well with three of the five best teams coming from Clermont and nine individual weight class champions were from the county and the Southern Buckeye Conference.

Lions’ Lewis wins two in SOSL swim meet

New Richmond’s boys led the way for the Lions in the Southwest Ohio Swim League championship meet. Alex Lewis, a junior, was the best individual performer winning two events.

Amelia is bowling champion of FAVC-C

Amelia is the champion of the varsity girls and boys bowling competition in the Cardinal Division of the Fort Ancient Valley Conference. The Baron girls were 10-0 in conference confrontations and 12-2 overall. The men of Amelia won their division of the conference with an 8-2 record and the Barons were 11-4 overall.
