Batavia, Clermont Northeastern host Halftime Challenge

The National Bank and Trust Halftime Challenge has begun this year at Batavia and Clermont Northeastern high schools. The event takes place at all of the boys and girls home basketball games at both high schools and it is sponsored by the National Bank and Trust of Batavia.

Randy Hospelhorn chosen the new head football coach at Amelia High School

Randy Hospelhorn is the new head football coach at Amelia High School. Hospelhorn, who had previously been the defensive coordinator at Glen Este High School the past seven years, had the same staff position at Amelia from the late 1980s through the mid 1990s.

Milford, Northeastern, and Goshen set pace in county boys basketball scene

Milford, Clermont Northeastern, and Goshen remain in the thick of the battle in their respective conference races. Despite a loss, Batavia, too, is in the midst of its league title fight. The Eagles defeated Winton Woods, another serious contender in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division crown chase, 72-66, in overtime.

Most county male basketball squads triumph

Several of Clermont County’s varsity boys basketball squads are at or near the forefront of their respective division races of the Southern Buckeye Conference. The Tigers gnarled Williamsburg in the Wildcats’ lair 88-57. This was a non-division game of the Southern Buckeye Conference. The visitors were in control throughout 28-7, 46-29, and 67-43.Louie Schaljo, junior forward-guard, scorched the nets for 34 points and Tyler Bullock, sophomore guard, added 13 for the Red and Gray.

Kris Hecktor signs with Marshall University

Kris Hecktor, a Batavia High School senior, recently signed a collegiate letter-of-intent to continue his education and baseball career at Marshall University, Huntington, W. Va. He plans to major in business.

Trojan, Eagle grapplers pinning down laurels

Three Clermont County squads competed in the Southwest Ohio Wrestling Coaches Association Glenn Sample Classic that took place at Oak Hills High School. In the Division I classification, Harrison’s Wildcats were the winners with 138 points, Glen Este was fourth with 95, Milford was sixth with 62, and Amelia was ninth with 30.

GE, Amelia, and Milford girls win cage games

The varsity distaff cagers at Glen Este continue their winning ways as the Trojans share the leadership of the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division race with Winton Woods’ Warriors. Amelia and Milford have also been tacking on a win here and there of late.

Trojan women tied for FAVC-B cage lead

Glen Este’s girls continue unbeaten as the Trojans remain tied for first place in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division. Winton Woods’ Warriors are the co-leaders along with GE. The Purple and White pulverized Northwest’s Knights 77-43 in a Buckeye Division game of the Fort Ancient Valley Conference. Glen Este easily led at each period’s end 25-3, 50-9, and 68-32. Moriah Hodge, senior forward, poured in 25 points to top the Trojans’ scoring.

Milford, Batavia, CNE win in boys b-ball

Milford, Batavia, and Clermont Northeastern have been the winners of late among Clermont County’s varsity boys basketball squads. The Eagles handed Goshen its first loss of the season 75-60 in an intra-county, non-conference clash. The host Red and White slowly pulled away from the Red and Gray with quarter advantages of 18-15, 32-20, and 51-43.

Trojans and Eagles flatten opposing wrestling competition

Glen Este’s varsity wrestling squad took both sides of a triangular meet the Trojans hosted. The Purple and White defeated Princeton’s Vikings 44-33 and New Richmond 53-22. The Harrison Duals saw GE defeat Hamilton and Marysville.
