Bubp bill passes in the Ohio House
State Representative Danny Bubp (R-West Union) has announced the passage of legislation from the Ohio House to add the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program to Ohio CORE curriculum. The measure passed by a vote of 96-0. “It is an honor to work with the JROTC instructors and cadets across Ohio to preserve this essential program in our high schools,” said Bubp.

With the partnership of several schools, Hopewell Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG) supplies a unique service; an educator who assists at-risk students with credit recovery, employability skills, and community involvement.
Batavia Rotary recognizes Shaw as Student of the Month
The Batavia Rotary Club recognizes a high school student from Clermont Northeastern High School each month as the Student of the Month. These students live their lives in a manner that exemplifies the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.” Andy Shaw was honored as the club’s Clermont Northeastern High School “Student of the Month” for September 2009.
Judge Shriver named the recipient of C.J. McLin Award
Clermont County Municipal Court Administrative Judge James Shriver is the recipient of the 2009 C.J. McLin Award, presented by the Ohio Justice Alliance for Community Corrections (OJACC). The award is named after the late Ohio Representative C.J. McLin, Jr., who worked tirelessly in the General Assembly to improve community corrections through funding and legislative change.
Clermont County Adult Probation Department is Skeen Award winner
The Clermont County Common Pleas Court Adult Probation Department has received the Clifford Skeen Award, presented by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. The award recognizes the department for operating the “outstanding non-residential community corrections program in the State of Ohio for fiscal year 2009.”
Holiday in the Village coming to Batavia
The village of Batavia’s Beautification Committee is planning “Holiday in the Village,” an event for the entire family. Holiday in the Village will be held from 6 – 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Village Administration Building, 389 East Main Street.
Rotary recognizes Wood as Student of the Month

Great Oaks student elected as officer in state organization
Milford High School student Jeff Michael is a leader. He was elected to the 2010 Ohio DECA State Officer position of Secretary/Treasurer Tuesday, Nov. 3 at the Ohio DECA Fall Leadership Conference held at the Columbus Convention Center. He was there with 49 classmates in the Milford/Great Oaks Marketing Management and Research Program.
Pabin selected as Trooper of the Year
Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Nathan Pabin has been selected 2009 Trooper of the Year at the Batavia Post. The selection of Trooper Pabin is in recognition of outstanding service during 2009 at the Batavia Post. Fellow officers and supervisors stationed at Batavia chose Trooper Pabin based on leadership abilities.
West Clermont Local School District teachers published
Two West Clermont teachers have been published. An instructional unit about bullying, written by Mike Laehr and Sue Fisher, is included in the new book, “Comprehension & Collaboration,” (Heinemann, 2009). The units in this book were compiled by best-selling authors Stephanie Harvey and Smokey Daniels.
