Health and Safety Fair to be held at WalMart-Amelia

Clermont Senior Services and WalMart-Amelia will host their annual Health and Safety Fair from 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 at the store, 1815 SR 125, just outside Amelia. The health fair is being presented in conjunction with the store’s flu shot clinic.

Art classes to be offered in New Richmond

Front Street Gallery in New Richmond is offering a series of art classes beginning in October. The Front Street Gallery now located at 218 Front Street has the room needed to provide space for the classes according to Front Street Gallery owner Paul Vanderbosch and Cheryl Crowell.

Sam’s Club donates to Felicity teachers

Sam’s Club at Eastgate recently awarded 10 Felicity-Franklin teachers (randomly selected out of a hat) $100 gift certificates to be used at Sam’s or Walmart. The school was nominated by a parent in our district that works for Sam’s club and the employees voted for our school to be the recipients of the $1,000.

Girls cheer at ‘Race for the Cure’

Coach Tina Stassi and the Glen Este Trojans 10 yr old Glen Este Cheer Squad were in the middle of all the action at the 2009 Susan G. Komen ‘Race for the Cure’ that took place on Saturday, Sept. 12. The girls cheered on the racers from the Purple People Bridge.

Bubp drafts bill to aid JROTC program

State Representative Danny Bubp (R-West Union) has announced legislation he has drafted to add the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program to the Ohio CORE curriculum.

Mountaintop mining talk to be held

Moutaintop Removal is a radical form of coal mining in which the entire top of a mountain is literally blown off, devastating communities throughout Appalachia, polluting drinking water and destroying rivers. A significant percentage of our local electricity comes from such mining operations and many additional mountaintop removal mines are currently being applied for.

UC Clermont College to host Walk/Run for Scholarships

UC Clermont College will host its second annual UC Clermont 5K Walk/Run for Scholarships at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at Ivy Pointe Business Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m. in the Total Quality Logistics (TQL) Parking lot at 4289 Ivy Pointe Blvd. in the Eastgate Area.

Wear purple in October to promote domestic violence awareness

“Domestic violence is a growing problem across the country,” said Kirstin Eismin, shelter manager for the YWCA House of Peace shelter in Clermont County. “Our shelter for victims of abuse is at capacity, and our abuse hotline (that also serves Brown and Adams counties) had over 500 phone calls for assistance last month. Compare that to 300 calls only two months previously.”

PNC Bank helps CASA for Clermont Kids obtain $30,000 in grant money

PNC Bank has helped CASA for Clermont Kids! obtain $30,000 in two grants for volunteer expansion. The first award came from the Robert H. Reakirt Foundation, PNC Bank, Trustee in the amount of $10,000.

Alpaca Gala to be held in October

Rain canceled the Alpaca Gala Sunday, Sept. 20, but the Southwestern Ohio and Northern Kentucky Alpaca Community has rescheduled the event. It will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at the New Richmond Alpaca Fair, located at 1240 Bethel-New Richmond Road.
