In response to numerous online videos that display animal agriculture in a negative light, the “Because I Care” video contest, coordinated by Ohio Farm Bureau Federation’s (OFBF) Center for Food and Animal Issues, is encouraging farmers, ranchers and others to develop and submit their own videos that portray a positive and informative message about livestock farming.
Students in Instructor Barbara Wallace’s “Writing, Philanthropy, and Student Engagement” class awarded $4500 to Greater Cincinnati non-profit organizations recently, as a culmination of a course designed to enhance students’ understanding of civic issues in the local community.
Clermont County citizens are invited to attend the first in a series of public meetings on Tuesday, Aug. 10 to learn about the goals and objectives of the Middle East Fork Balanced Growth Initiative. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Batavia Township Administration Building, located at 1535 Clough Pike and will include presentations and opportunities for citizen feedback.

Robert (Bobby) L. Shepherd Jr. and Lisa Marie McKenzie were united in marriage June 19, 2010 at the Inn at Evins Mill in Smithville, Tenn. The groom’s parents are Bob and Betty Shepherd of Felicity. The bride’s parents are Gary and Debbie McKenzie of Higginsport. Both parents attending the wedding along with groom’s son Jonathan Shepherd and bride’s son Trever McKenzie.
The Clermont County Recorder’s Office is now accepting electronically filed documents (e-recordings). The fees to record documents with the Recorder’s Office are the same for both e-filed and those brought into the office.
Can you tell the difference between a swallowtail and a Pearl Crescent butterfly? You will be able to, if you become a citizen scientist with the Clermont County Park District. Volunteers are needed to take part in the weekly butterfly count at the Chilo Lock #34 Park in Franklin Township.
Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Smith of Owensville, Ohio announce the engagement of their daughter, Rebecca Smith, to Dan Shawhan, son of Tom and Janet Shawhan, of Hillsboro, Ohio. The couple will wed August 21, 2010. Rebecca is a 2006 graduate of Wilmington College and is a legal editor. Dan is a 2004 graduate of the University of Northwestern Ohio. He works with his family on their dairy and grain farm.
As part of an ongoing beautification plan, the Village Association of Batavia recently put new flowers in the planter boxes on the bridge on Main Street. The group used hot pink petunias, blue scaevola and lime green sweet potato vine as the plant material. New this year are four new barrel planters, two on each end of the bridge.
Grant Career Center SkillsUSA members recently returned from Kansas City, Mo. where they competed at the 46th Annual National Leadership and Skills Conference and SkillsUSA Championships. The competition was held at H. Roe Bartle Hall and Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, June 21-25.
