Barry to speak at Williamsburg High School alumni banquet

Thom Barry (known as Thom Gross when he graduated from Williamsburg High School) who plays Detective Will Jeffries in the Sunday evening CBS series, Cold Case, is returning home Saturday, June 5 as the guest speaker at the Williamsburg Alumni Banquet to be held at the Williamsburg Middle/High School. Prepaid reservations are required.

Bellonby completes his Marine Corps training

Paul Bruce Bellonby II, a 2004 graduate from Amelia High School, recently joined the Marine Corps through the Delayed Entry Program and attended recruit training at marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. During recruit training, he underwent 13 weeks of training that included instruction in first aid, general military subjects, physical fitness, Marine Corps history, martial arts and weapons familiarization.

Troop Box Ministries holds fund-raiser at golf course

The Cedar Trace Golf Club in Owensville hosted a fund-raiser Saturday, May 8 for the Troop Box Ministry, an organization that sends monthly gift boxes to American soldiers. Founded by Diana Lawrence and Jean Johnston of Hamersville, the group has been active since 2001 and now sends 75 boxes each month to soldiers who are far from home.

VAOB presents the April Property Improvement Award

The Village Association of Batavia has presented its April Property Improvement Award to local cabinet maker Ted Ramos for the extensive remodel of the home at 500 North Riverside Drive. Ramos bought the home with his son Gabriel Ramos who was deployed to Iraq and wanted a project to invest in while he was overseas.

24-hour tribute to war dead to be held May 30

“On Memorial Day, we reflect on the service and sacrifice of those who have died to preserve our freedom,” said Board of Clermont County Commissioners President Bob Proud. On this Memorial Day weekend, a solemn ceremony will be held at the Union Township Veterans Memorial Park, paying tribute to those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

Batavia Rotary Club recognizes Henson as Student of the Month

One high school student from Batavia High School is honored at the first meeting of each month during the school year. These students live their lives in a manner that exemplifies the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self”. Ashleigh Henson was honored as the club’s Batavia High School “Student of the Month” for May 2010.

Grant Career Center students compete at championships

The 2010 SkillsUSA Ohio State Championships gathered nearly three-thousand members and advisors from career training programs throughout Ohio, including 20 members of the Grant Career Center SkillsUSA Chapter. The 58th annual Skills Championship was held at the Ohio State Fairground Complex in Columbus, April 23 and 24.

UC Clermont College creates Veterans Affairs position

UC Clermont College has created a new position to serve veterans, naming Jeff Bosworth as the academic director of veteran affairs. The Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008 or the new GI Bill has been hailed as the most extensive educational assistance program for veterans since the original GI Bill was signed into law in 1944.
