Letter to the Editor,

This is indeed the season to reflect and count our many blessings.

Williamsburg, Ohio has lost a familiar, friendly face with the passing of John E. McClellan on November 18, 2017. While mourning the loss of our loved one, we are thankful for his amazing legacy and wish to acknowledge it. Life is not only about the huge, public accomplishments. It is about how we live our lives day in and day out.

John was the father of four children, seven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. None of these have been incarcerated or fallen prey to the addictions so common to our society. All adults have productive jobs and support their families. All of the children are still in school, so far. While these simple facts may not be impressive to some, given the challenges of living in small town Ohio, statistically speaking, this is amazing. Living a life full of love and integrity are worthy goals.

Of course, John’s family and friends would have wished for more time with him, but it was not permitted.

Reflecting on John’s life will want us all to be better people.

Andrea McClellan,
Portsmouth, Ohio
