Schumacher has been involved with CCDD since her daughter, Alexandra, was 3 months old. She is now 22 and will graduate from the Thomas A. Wildey School on May 25. Over the years, Schumacher has spent countless hours assisting children who receive services from CCDD. She is one of the founding members of the current Wildey School PTO which was created in 2005 She served as Treasurer from 2005 until 2014, but has continued to be a member of the PTO for the past two years.

“Julie helped raise thousands of dollars during her tenure on the PTO,” said Williams. “This money was used to purchase equipment for our adaptive playground, our accessible gazebo, and countless other pieces of educational tools for our classrooms and our pool. In fact, the PTO purchased the very first iPads for our classrooms a few years ago.”

Schumacher has organized an annual Holiday Carnival at the Wildey School each December, as well as Grandparents Day and Staff Appreciation Week in May. Because of her bubbly personality and her willingness to serve, she recruited lots of help from other parents, friends, and neighbors in order to produce these three events for the children of Wildey and their families. Getting people involved in her daughter’s life is very important to Schumacher.

“Julie has become a close friend to Wildey,” said Williams. “She has always challenged us to be our best and to keep moving forward. Julie and her energy will be missed greatly, and we are forever grateful for the legacy she leaves behind.”

Schumacher was presented with several mementoes that will remind her of the time she spent at Wildey.
