The Goshen Warriors’ wrestling team will enjoy the return of several key wrestlers as the season begins this week.

With senior Trey Atwood departing the team after last season, the squad will look to improve on last season’s fourth-place finish in the Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference’s American Division.

They’ll do so under a head coach entering his second season. Dan Hill took the reigns in Goshen prior to last season, and according to him the players have helped with the transition.

“I’m grateful to have gotten to work with these guys my first year,” Hill said via email. “We are building the program every day.”

The Warriors will have more depth throughout the roster this season, with several wrestlers spending time in the offseason on the mat, improving their performance.

Junior Andrew Arnold wrestles in the 285-pound weight class, while two incoming wrestlers, Thomas Hill and Garrett Ward, both won championships at the middle school level last season. Jacob Kube joined Atwood at the district meet last season, and Hill said Kube has a “lot of potential” in the individual tournament.

The team has lofty goals this season, according to Hill. The Warriors are looking for multiple state qualifiers in the individual tournament while advancing to the second round of the state tournament.

The Warriors begin their season with a tri-match at Reading on Dec. 7.
