While most of the important games were already finished before last week, several teams had a few non-conference foes to take care of.
In girls’ soccer action, Amelia started the week with a strong 10-0 victory over Winton Woods on Oct. 11. That same night, Bethel-Tate dropped a 7-0 decision to Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy and Milford fell to Loveland 3-2. Georgetown defeated Felicity-Franklin 5-0 in a conference bout, and Williamsburg blanked Fayetteville-Perry 8-0.
On the boys’ side, Fayetteville defeated Williamsburg 8-0 and New Richmond earned a 3-2 win over Reading. Georgetown defeated Felicity-Franklin 8-0.
In girls’ volleyball action, Clermont Northeastern earned a 3-0 win over Georgetown, 25-13, 25-18, 25-12. Blanchester defeated Bethel-Tate 25-14, 23-25, 25-20, 25-17 and Norwood swept Goshen 25-17, 25-21, 25-20. Williamsburg defeated Felicity-Franklin 25-8, 25-5, 25-6 and Western Brown pulled out a five-set win over New Richmond 15-25, 26-24, 25-9, 20-25, 15-11. Amelia rallied from a 25-21 loss in the first set against Batavia to take the next three by scores of 25-9, 25-22, 25-21. Finally, Milford defeated Kings 25-20, 25-9, 14-25, 27-25.
Batavia earned a 2-1 win over McNicholas High School on Oct. 12. Several volleyball teams had non-conference bouts that night, with Batavia falling to Miami Valley Christian Academy 25-21, 25-18, 25-21. Badin defeated Clermont Northeastern 25-18, 25-17, 23-25, 26-24.
Glen Este fell to Turpin 9-0 and Milford battled Loveland to a 2-2 tie on Oct. 13. That same night, Blanchester defeated Goshen 3-2 and Amelia fell to Wyoming 7-0.
In volleyball, Williamsburg defeated Bethel-Tate 25-9, 25-12, 25-8 to cap off a perfect run through the Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference. Clermont Northeastern swept Felicity-Franklin 25-4, 25-5, 25-17 and Goshen held off New Richmond 25-16, 25-20, 20-25, 17-25, 15-3. Western Brown’s 25-16, 25-14, 14-25, 25-20 victory over Amelia, combined with New Richmond’s loss, gave the Lady Broncos the American Division title outright.
In the Eastern Cincinnati Conference, Milford defeated Withrow 25-13, 25-4, 25-3.
Only one girls’ soccer team took to the pitch in the area on Monday, Oct. 17 for their sectional tournament bout. The Felicity-Franklin Lady Cardinals saw their season come to an end after a 7-0 loss to Reading.
Several boys’ teams held their sectional tournament openers on the Oct. 17. New Richmond defeated Waynesville 3-1, setting up a rematch with the Batavia Bulldogs, who defeated Reading 1-0. Indian Hill defeated Goshen 5-0, and the Ripley Blue Jays upset Bethel-Tate 3-2 in double overtime. Roger Bacon defeated Williamsburg 9-0, while Little Miami ended Amelia’s season 4-0. Madeira defeated Clermont Northeastern 9-0 and Fayetteville defeated Felicity-Franklin 5-2.
Milford, meanwhile, upset Moeller 1-0. The Eagles now advance to face Hamilton on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. The New Richmond/Batavia matchup is also Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.
Williamsburg volleyball battled the Ripley Lady Blue Jays in their sectional tournament opener on Saturday, Oct. 17. The Lady Wildcats won 25-4, 25-5, 25-10 to advance to a match with East Clinton on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. Felicity-Franklin defeated Lockwood 16-25, 25-16, 25-22, 26-24 to advance to a match with top-seeded Miami Valley Christian Academy. That match was not completed before press time.
Glen Este earned a 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 20-25, 15-12 win over Northwest, setting up a match against St. Ursula on Wednesday, Oct. 19 that was not completed before press time.
