The Ohio Township Board of Trustees was recently awarded a grant of $100,000 from the State of Ohio Local Government Safety Capital Grant Program. Ohio Township was one of only two municipalities in Clermont County to be awarded grant funding in the first round of awards.

Ohio Township will be using the grant funds to apply towards the purchase of a new ambulance. Ohio Township currently owns two ambulances, a 2001 Ford Type 1 Horton ambulance and a 2002 Ford Type 1 Horton Ambulance.

Through a long existing shared services agreement with Pierce Township, The Pierce Township Fire Department provides fire and EMS coverage to Pierce and Ohio Townships. Pierce Township Firefighters, EMTs and Paramedics operate Ohio Township owned vehicles.

The new ambulance was approved during an August Ohio Township special meeting.

The ambulance has been ordered through Horton Emergency Vehicles from the state term schedule. Ohio Township Trustees will provide a local match of $103,718.00 to facilitate the purchase.

The new ambulance is expected to take approximately 210 to 240 days to be completed. Ohio Township has sought out other grant opportunities in the past, without success, to help replace their aging ambulances.

“This grant was critical to help us update our vehicle. Without the assistance from the state of Ohio, we may have been forced to look at purchasing a used ambulance only delaying our need. Now we are purchasing a new unit that will be reliable, reduce maintenance and repair costs, and help take us toward the future,” said Ohio Township Trustee Rick Hinson.
