Milford Exempted Village School District is working on the completion of the final phase of its Master Facilities plan and is asking for community input. An online survey has been posted on the district website at www.milfordschools.org and will remain open through the end of the day on Friday, Oct. 14.
With the opening of two new schools this fall, all six of Milford’s elementary schools have now been replaced through a shared funding model of local tax dollars and the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission. Through this state program, Milford added the ninth grade wing and renovated sections of Milford High School in 2010.
Milford has been exploring the possibility of funding the district’s remaining facilities plan through a bond issue and state funding. The facilities plan currently includes the following: replacing the Milford Junior High School building; renovating parts of Milford High School that have not been updated; replacing the current auditorium with one that meets the needs of the current student population; renovating athletic facilities; and replacing the Milford Preschool. The Milford Schools Business Advisory Council recommended seeking additional community and business partners that could further reduce the total cost of the project and the cost to the taxpayer of a potential bond issue.
The district has a 70-person community advisory committee studying this facilities plan. The committee is participating in a visioning process to learn about and discuss the educational facilities that will be necessary to support teaching/learning in the 21st century. The CAC will also hold a public meeting regarding the master facilities’ plan on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. at Milford High School.
