The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park is reaching out to Greater Cincinnati’s young professionals and college students with its new Off the Grid Bar Series. The series brings a varied slate of entertaining and immersive arts events to neighborhood hotspot the Mount Adams Pavilion. The Off the Grid inaugural season launches Oct. 5 and will continue through March 2017.

“Our new Off the Grid programming is a fun, interactive addition to the community,” says Playhouse Artistic Director Blake Robison. “We want to bring live performance to young professionals where they work, live and socialize. We hope that these events catch on and become a regular part of Cincinnati nightlife.”

First up is So This One Time: Story Slam. Storytellers share a personal five-minute-or-less story pegged to each session’s theme. Topics include Adventures in Adulting, My First Time, Holiday Realness, Technical Difficulties and Squad Goals. So This One Time kicks off on Wednesday, Oct. 5, with subsequent story slams on Nov. 2, Dec. 7, Jan. 4, Feb. 1 and March 1.

Battle Ground: Lip Sync Contest, beginning Oct. 12, will pit contestants against each other at each session, with the crowd-pleasing champion moving forward to the next lip sync battle with new competitors. Backup dancers and props are not only suggested, but encouraged. Additional dates are Nov. 9, Dec. 14, Jan. 18, Feb. 8 and March 8

Next up is Live Action!: Role Play Your Favorite Sci-Fi Shows on Oct. 26, which will sweep the audience into live reenactments of favorite science fiction television shows, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dr. Who, Star Trek, Firefly and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Live Action! will continue Nov. 16, Jan. 25, Feb. 22 and March 15.

All Wednesday night events start at 8 p.m. Audiences are welcome simply to watch the fun, or they can sign up to perform.

Finally, #SelfiethePlay returns Oct. 22 with an all-new interactive reality theatre experience. Audience members are integral to influencing the direction of the story for each episode with additional live events on Nov. 12, Dec. 10, Jan. 14, Feb. 18 and March 25. A webisode will be released online for participants to view and share. All live events begin at 10 p.m.
