Our quarterly Legislative Luncheons are back!

June 8 marked the date of Ohio becoming the 25th state to approve the use of medical marijuana. With the legalization going into effect in early September, and we know you’ll have questions on how it impacts workplace safety, HR Policies, drug screening, workers’ compensation coverage and costs, unemployment compensation, and more.

Joining us for the discussion will be Don Boyd, the Director of Labor and Legal Affairs for the Ohio Chamber of Commerce who joined the Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Team in 2015.  He is responsible for lobbying members of the Ohio General Assembly, the Governor, and Ohio’s Congressional Delegation in support of issues that foster a competitive climate in Ohio favorable to economic growth. He also works with administrative agencies to resolve issues that are of concern to the Chamber’s membership.

His specific areas of concentration include workers’ compensation, unemployment compensation, employment law, labor relations, insurance, tort reform and other general human resource issues. In addition to his lobbying duties, he serves as the staff liaison for the Chamber’s Workers’ Compensation and Employment Law Committees. He assists the committees in performing their mission, which includes forming the policy the Chamber takes on legislation, and developing solutions for long and short-term problems.

Don also works closely with outside legal counsel to submit amicus briefs on behalf of the Ohio Chamber urging the courts to uphold pro-business laws, particularly in the areas of workers’ compensation, employment law, and reforms to Ohio’s civil justice system. Don previously worked as staff legal counsel at the Ohio Automobile Dealers Association. He holds a B.A. from The Ohio State University where he majored in Political Science and minored in Public Policy. Don obtained his Juris Doctorate Degree from Capital University Law School. He is a member of the Ohio Bar.
