Dear editor,

As we Americans make plans to celebrate on July 4th, let’s never forget why it’s the most important date in U.S. history. How many people remember what happened on July 4, 1776? Since American history is no longer required in many schools, we parents must promote ‘patriotism’ in our homes and in our hearts, from our court house to the state house to the White House.

While many folks will focus on family cookouts, fireworks, and fun, we must never forget the price that was paid for our freedom. Wherever and whenever that beloved red, white and blue banner waves in the breeze, remember the price that our soldiers paid; all gave some and some gave all!

Wave that beloved flag as vets march by in your local parade; watch fireworks and feel the excitement of living in the ‘land of the free and home of the brave’! Attend a patriotic concert; thank that WWII vet for giving his best to buy our freedom; visit a local church and pray for our God to protect our people, our police, and our military!

Come and celebrate America’s birthday at the “GOD & COUNTRY” concert held in New Richmond. on Thursday June 30. Beginning at 7 p.m. this annual service will focus on freedom, faith and family. It will be held at the village bandstand-by-the-river. The Community Choir, directed by Vickie Hale, will present patriotic hymns while area pastors pray for our beloved nation.

And to celebrate everyone will enjoy some red, white & blue cupcakes!
