For students interested in communications professions — including advertising, journalism and public relations — the path to success now starts closer to home than ever.
UC Clermont College recently announced that it would begin offering an associate’s degree in Digital Media Communications this fall. The two-year program is designed to help students transition seamlessly into the communications bachelor’s degree program in UC’s College of Arts and Sciences to complete their studies.
“This is a great opportunity for local students to begin their studies in their own backyard and become acclimated to college courses and a collegiate environment,” said Andy Curran, professor of digital media communications. “It’s also a more affordable path to a bachelor’s degree in communications, while still offering the full UC experience.”
Curran, who worked in radio and TV for 25 years, also emphasized the unique academic approach of the UC Clermont program. Courses will provide students with the media production skills they’ll need to succeed in the communications field. Classes will cover the basics of digital media production, such as video, audio, photography, animation, illustration and web application skills, as well as a range of communication disciplines.
“With these tools available to everyone now, communications professionals — whether you’re a journalist for a TV station or work in corporate public relations — need to understand how to produce quality video, audio and photos,” Curran said. “It’s all part of being able to effectively tell a story. And employers expect graduates to have these skills from the first day on the job. They will learn these basic skills at UC Clermont and apply them in their studies in the Communication program.”
