A New Richmond man pleaded guilty to rape and kidnapping on May 17, but was indicted for another incident of rape and of pandering obscenity on the same day.

Gary James Jr., 37, pleaded guilty to one count of rape and one count of kidnapping, both first degree felonies for crimes committed against a 12-year-old girl.

James picked up the victim in Pickerington, Ohio and brought her to New Richmond, where he engaged in sex acts. He was sentenced to 10 years to life for rape and 15 years to life for kidnapping by Judge Jerry McBride, in addition to being labeled as a Tier III sex offender, according to a press release.

However, during the investigation, the New Richmond Police Department found information that they gave to the Regional Electronic Computer Intelligence Task Force, part of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, for analysis.

From that, RECI found evidence that led to James being indicted by the Clermont County Grand Jury on May 17 for one count of rape, a first degree felony, and one count of pandering obscenity involving a minor, a second degree felony.

The maximum potential penalty for rape is life without parole, according to the release.
