George Hibben, Rookwood Pottery Company, will present the “History of Rookwood”, May 25, at Promont in Milford.
The Greater Milford Area Historical Society (GMAHS) is pleased to announce an exceptional presentation for its May Collectors Club meeting. George Hibben, senior sales associate of the Rookwood Pottery Company will lead a discussion on Rookwood pottery. The session, free and open to the public, will start at 7 p.m. on May 25 at Promont, 906 Main Street, Milford, Ohio 45150.

Hibben’s presentation will cover the history of Rookwood from 1880 up to current production. New products and archival pieces will be used for demonstration purposes. Those attending are invited to bring photos or personal Rookwood pieces with them for appraisal after the lecture.

“The GMAHS Collectors’ Club is a wonderful way for our community history fans to get together on a variety of interesting topics,” said Donna Amann, administrator, GMAHS. “We are extremely pleased to host Mr. Hibben and excited to learn more about Rookwood, a significant player in the historical art movement in the greater Cincinnati area.”

Hibben has been with the Rookwood Pottery Company since 2008. Now in sales, he previously worked in the mold room and has carved various pieces in current production. From 2006-2008, Hibben consulted on the Rookwood Moerlein stein series with Christian Moerlein Brewing Company. Collecting Rookwood since 1988 and following Rookwood auctions since 1991, he is well versed in Rookwood’s history and production.

About Greater Milford Area Historical Society:

The Greater Milford Area Historical Society, Inc. (a 501c3, non-profit) was founded in 1967 with the purpose of emphasizing the history of Milford. A small historic museum was started at 114 Main Street. In 1983, the Society relocated to its present location, Promont, located at 906 Main Street, Milford, Ohio. Promont was the home of John M. Pattison, 43rd Governor of Ohio and the only governor from Clermont County. In addition to improvements to the Museum, the Society has expanded its historical programs and collaborative initiatives in the community; and, also broadened its scope to include Miami Township.

The GMAHS is especially proud of its Partners-in-Education programs in the Milford schools, an award winning effort of the Society’s volunteers; the project to record oral histories of local residents; genealogy services; and, its annual Art Affaire, Milford’s premier art and fine craft show.
