Athletes from across the area braved less-than-favorable conditions this past weekend to participate in the Goshen invitational, held at Jim Brown Stadium.

The host squad got off to a strong start, with Haley Carrier winning the 100-yard dash. Her time of 13.19 seconds put her just ahead of Blanchester’s Asia Baldwin and a pair of Clermont Northeastern Lady Rockets, Caitlyn Whitton and Kassi Billow.

Batavia’s Leona Burton Rojas won the 200-yard dash, finishing in 26.12 seconds. Goshen’s Anna Dowd and Miranda Meyer placed third and fourth, respectively.In the 400-yard dash, Batavia’s Lauriann Esz finished second, less than one second ahead of Felicity’s Jodee Clark. CNE’s Kaitlyn Moss placed fourth while Glen Este’s Rachel Taylor earned a fifth-place finish.

The Lady Bulldogs won the title in the 800-yard run as well, with Reagan Slattery posting a blistering time of 2:56.87 to defeat Georgetown’s Kansie Garrity by nearly seven seconds. Goshen’s Jessica Benson was third.

Danielle Bushman placed second in the 1600-yard run for the Lady Bulldogs. Benson placed third for Goshen and Felicity’s Kylee VanHuss clocked a time of 7:37.90 to finish fourth. VanHuss also placed fourth in the 3200-yard run.

In the 100-yard hurdles, Goshen’s Haley Carrier won the event, finishing in 17.84 seconds. CNE’s Jessica Shafer tied for third while a pair of Glen Este Lady Trojans, Veronica Grenci and Kaylin Stockman, crossed the line in fifth and sixth place, respectively.

Goshen’s Miranda Meyer placed second in the 300-yard hurdles with a time of 53.23 seconds. CNE’s Jessica Shafer placed fourth while Glen Este’s Lanai Levan finished fifth.

The Lady Rockets’ quartet of Kassi Billow, Hannah Hoerth, Leah Decatur and Caitlyn Whitton won both the 4×100 and 4×200 yard relay events

.In the field events, Goshen’s Anna Dowd tied for first place with Georgetown’s Stephanie Ayers in the high jump. Leah Decatur placed third for CNE.Glen Este’s Bethany Berger won the pole vault, with Hoerth placing second. Burton Rojas won the long jump for Batavia, posting a distance of 17 feet, 4.5 inches. Runner-up Haley Carrier from Goshen was nearly three feet shorter at 14 feet, seven inches.

Goshen’s Brandy Rahm placed second in the discus with a throw of 30 feet, .5 inches. Teammate Lina Rios was third at an even 30 feet.

The Warriors also had success in the boys’ events. Aaron Koch and Jacob Hopkins finished first and second, respectively, in the boys’ 100 yard dash. Glen Este’s Jacob Hamilton edged Koch in the 200-yard dash by less than a second.

Felicity’s Austin Perry won the 400-yard dash, with Goshen’s Michael Figgs and Jacob Meader placing second and third. Jared Boeckmann won the 1600-yard run for the Cardinals, with Goshen’s Grant Winterkorn placing second. Batavia’s Ridgway Cook placed fourth and CNE’s Seth Teaney crossed the line in fifth place.

Boeckmann also won the 3200-yard run, posting a time of 11:12.02 that bested Blanchester’s Sean Holland by roughly 32 seconds.Koch and Hopkins again placed first and second in the 110-yard hurdles, with Koch coming out on top by less than a second. Hopkins won the 300-yard hurdles by .47 seconds over Koch.

Glen Este’s Brandon Holloway, Josh Stotler, Max Gibson and Mitchell Gibson won the 4×100 yard relay, while Goshen’s quartet of Adam Slusher, Thomas Connor, Jacob Meader and Mathew Hodge won the title in the 4×200 yard event.

Meader also was victorious in the high jump, while Glen Este’s David Lorenzo placed second. A pair of Trojans, Jacob Hamilton and Stotler, finished first and second in the pole vault, with Hamilton clearing 14 feet. Michael Figgs finished second in the long jump to Georgetown’s Logan Doss. Teammate Adam Slusher placed fourth.

Glen Este’s Austin Snyder won both the shot put and discus events. CNE’s Layne Todd finished second in the shot put and Logan Fishback placed third. Fischback placed second in the discus, 12 feet behind Snyder.
