The Rotary Club of Batavia, Ohio was honored to induct Cliff Bailey as their newest member on March 1. Bailey was sponsored by Jennifer Fischer, past president of Batavia Rotary.

Bailey is a District Executive with the Boy Scouts of America.

He recently moved to Cincinnati to work for the Dan Beard Council. Not everyone has a background in scouting, although Bailey does.

“In many ways, scouting saved my life,” said Bailey.

Both of his parents worked when he was a child, and he sometimes missed the structure of having an active parent at home. When a friend in sixth grade invited him to a Boy Scout meeting, he eagerly attended and joined the club. The friend quit a year later, but Bailey continued and enjoyed all of the rewards Boy Scouts had to offer.

“To this day, I set my life by the Boy Scout Law and Oath,” said Bailey. These 12 items are similar to the Rotary Four-Way Test, which is the basis that every Rotary group uses as its guiding principles.

Although Bailey’s career path has led him from being active in theater, teaching, construction, and now to the Dan Beard Council, he counts his blessings. Because of these twists and turns, he has been given the opportunity to travel and enjoy these different paths while raising a family. “I now look forward to my path in Rotary,” said Bailey.
