Students in the Great Oaks/Batavia High School chapter of Business Professionals of America (BPA) earned national attention for their positive efforts this month when they were named BPA Social Media Week Champion. Students across the nation were challenged to use social media in a positive and productive manner while highlighting what BPA has and will help them accomplish. The Great Oaks/Batavia chapter’s efforts were recognized as the best among more than 2,300 BPA chapters nationwide.

The Great Oaks/Batavia chapter held a breakfast before school, collected bags for the homeless with toiletries and personal items, and celebrated World Kindness Day by writing letters to teachers and people who have made a difference. The seniors also organized a gift exchange to show how well they know each other.

As a chapter and as individuals, the students posted pictures and comments on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for each event. Students and alumni also posted their favorite memories from BPA and tweeted their opinion about the best advisor.

“At a time when many students are using social media to purposefully hurt others, it is nice to know that Batavia students are not following that trend!” said instructor and BPA advisor Angie Kovacs.

Kovacs said the ultimate goal was to promote the chapter and BPA through social media responsibly.

The students are part of the Great Oaks Legal Office Management program, offered in partnership with Batavia High School.
