The medical profession is a highly respected profession. Daily, doctors treat illnesses, diagnose diseases, and work long hours to keep us healthy. Unfortunately, we never hear about them unless someone has accused them of medical malpractice or incompetence. However, I do not think anyone would disagree with me when I say that most doctors are professionals who take pride in their work.

This week, I want to thank Doctor Shoba Rao of the Batavia Family Practice, Doctor Thomas Gulker of Cincinnati Dental Services, and veterinarian Jerry Miller of the Lifetime Pet Center of Williamsburg. Doctor Rao is my family doctor and has treated my wife, mother-in-law, and me for many years. She is caring and always listens to her patients. Last September, my mother-in-law became deathly ill and refused medical treatment. My wife called Dr. Rao and asked her to encourage my mother-in-law to go to the hospital. Dr. Rao called my dying mother-in-law and successfully encouraged my mother-in-law to seek treatment. Although my mother-in-law passed away, I appreciated Dr. Rao’s help.

Doctor Thomas Gulker is my dentist and has treated my entire family for many years. When my youngest son was three, we took him to Dr. Gulker for his first cleaning. My wife and I had concerns that our son would not be cooperative. Fortunately, the good doctor cleaned our son’s teeth without incident.

I also want to thank Dr. Jerry Miller, a veterinarian that is devoted to caring for animals. For several years, he has cared for my three cats. Although they do not enjoy their visits with Doctor Miller, he has kept them healthy. I just wanted to take a few minutes to thank these individuals for their hard work, dedication, and professionalism.
