Competing in the Southwest Ohio Wrestling Coaches Association – Glenn Sample Classic, the Bethel-Tate Tigers finished in second place in the small school division, which is made up of schools competing in Division II-III.

Among 35 teams from around the area, Bethel-Tate finished in 18th place overall with 63.5 points.

Senior Jeffrey Botts became the first Tiger wrestler in 25 years to win a SWOWCA weight class, defeating Fairfield’s Jake Bria in the 182-pound championship match, 10-6.

Botts’ teammate BJ Ratcliff finished in sixth place at 170 pounds, falling to Loveland’s Conner Homan in the fifth-place match.

Glen Este was the only other local team to compete in the event, finishing fourth overall with 134 points, 44 points behind champions Fairfield.

Glen Este’s Oscar Santana (113 lbs., sixth), Brandon Hertel (120 lbs., third), Matt Lewis (126 lbs., sixth), Tristin McGrath (132 lbs. seventh), Brandon Smith (145 lbs., fourth), Avery Jones (182 lbs., third), Nate Stone (195 lbs., seventh) and Austin Phillips (285 lbs., seventh) all placed for the Trojans, who competed in Division I.
