Lt., Sandra Mitchell McCann, Ohio State DAR Regent and rt., Diana J. Schwartz, Taliaferro Chapter Regent
The Taliaferro Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, held their Christmas meeting on Saturday, Dec. 12, in the Historic Presbyterian Church in Georgetown.

A noon luncheon was held in the honor of Ohio State DAR Regent, Sandra McCann, visiting the chapter. Eighteen chapter members were in attendance. The State Regent spoke to the Daughters about the NSDAR Guardian Trust Campaign, an Endowment Fund, money being raised to provide repair and upkeep of the DAR real estate in Washington, D. C. She provided information on how the Trust Fund would be financed to care for the historic buildings in the future.

Members brought new clothing items for the veterans at OVH, a special project of the chapter. Reports were made on the veteran’s bingo and monthly birthday cards. It was announced that the chapter would donate American Spirit Magazines, stories of historical accounts of American’s people and places, for their library.

The members voted to take part and support the Vietnam Memorial. It is a large unique memorial, engraved with more than 58,000 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. The large traveling memorial will visit Georgetown in 2017. Sue McKinley, Vice Regent, will chair the chapter’s part in the project.

A Candle Light Remembrance Memorial Ceremony was held for the chapter’s deceased member, Kathy Cunningham, who recently passed away. It was conducted by Historian, Jessica Little, and Chaplain Eileen Beasley. A special tribute was given in Kathy’s honor by Jessica Little.

Daughters will next meet on Feb. 13, 2016, same place and time. A luncheon will be held first in honor of the local winner of the DAR Citizenship Test.
