To The Editor:

I would like to address these comments to the Clermont County Health Department.

Clermont County will not allow on-site aerobic systems.

Their argument is that if the pump quits working, raw sewage would be released. They tell us they don’t have enough manpower to check these systems. That makes sense (not really).

They have plenty of manpower to come to my property and check my leach line system and charge me to do so.

Instead, they mandate these mound systems that require large acreage especially if the home you want to build has 4-5 bedrooms. This requires the mound system to be immense. I know I have 2 and 3 acre lots in Miami Township that are unbuildable and this is bad for the owners as that also equals “unsellable.” Bad for the builders, bad for the customers wanting to build, bad for the county not getting taxes for the new homes. It would make sense to allow aerobic systems with severe fines if an owner lets a bad pump motor remain. It appears to me that the builders and sellers of mound systems have more leverage than is healthy for the citizens of Clermont County.

Sincerely,
Allen Fry
