On Friday, Oct. 16 at 6:44 p.m., the Clermont County Communication Center received a call from Clermont Mercy Hospital reporting that a female walked into the emergency room with a gunshot wound to her hand. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded to Clermont Mercy and identified the female as Teva Highfield, F/W/39 from Sardinia, Ohio. Highfield advised that the shooting occurred on the exit ramp of SR 32, at Olivebranch Stonelick Rd. in Batavia Twp. Highfield advised that she followed a male subject in her vehicle who she believed stole a firearm from her residence in Sardinia. Highfield exited her vehicle and approached the male’s vehicle that was stopped at the intersection of state Route 32 and Olivebranch Stonelick Rd. Highfield engaged in a verbal dispute with the male who was seated in his vehicle over the ownership of the firearm. A struggle over the firearm ensued and one round was discharged, striking Highfield in the hand. At 7:55 p.m., Highfield was transported via AirCare to University Hospital with injuries described by medical personnel as “non-life-threatening.”

The investigation that followed determined that Christopher D. Turner, M/W/26, Batavia, had possession of the loaded firearm in the motor vehicle and was the subject arguing with Teva Highfield at the time the firearm was discharged. Turner was charged with Improperly Handling Firearms In A Motor Vehicle, a felony of the fourth degree, and is currently incarcerated in the Clermont County Jail on a $50,000.00 cash/professional bond.

Turner will appear in Clermont County Municipal Court on Monday Oct. 19, 2015 at 10 a.m. for his arraignment.

This case will be reviewed with the Prosecutor’s Office for possible additional charges.
