The Milford City Council unanimously appointed former Milford Mayor Lou Bishop to the city council during its meeting on September 15.

Bishop fills the open council seat left by former Milford Vice Mayor Jeff Lykins, who resigned via email on August 19.

The seat’s term ends January 4, 2016.

“My understanding is this is like a 90-day term, or period, which I’m fine with. I’d be more than happy to help the council and the city, because I love Milford. I think I’ve done my share of good work here, which most of you know about,” Bishop said.

Bishop was elected to the city council in 1996. He served as councilman and vice mayor before being elected as city mayor in 2004.

Bishop stepped down from the mayoral post in December 2006, a full year before his term was to end, citing a desire for more personal time.

David Grenier, who is running for a seat on the city council this November, was the only other person who applied to fill the open seat.

“I clearly don’t have as much experience as Mr. Bishop does, and I haven’t been involved with budget meetings before, but I would love to hit the ground running and start learning, especially if I may be elected to council come November,” Grenier said.

Members of the city council handled a variety of other matters during the meeting.

Lisa Evans was sworn in as vice mayor. Evans was appointed to the position on September 1.

The council decided to postpone the search for a new city manager until after the November election. Four city council seats are up for grabs this fall.

Pam Holbrook is currently serving as interim city manager.

Holbrook, who has served as Milford’s assistant city manager for the past nine years, replaces former Milford City Manager Jeff Wright, who announced his resignation on June 17. Wright was hired as the new Miami Township administrator on August 18.

Additionally, the council passed an ordinance approving the Union Township and city of Milford Joint Economic Development District Five Contract.

The council also passed an ordinance authorizing an agreement with Kleingers Group for the Riverside Park Master Plan.
