The Miami Township Trustees voted during the September 15 meeting to add a pylon sign that they hope will attract visitors to the area around Scene75.

The trustees began discussing adding a sign in the spring when Scene75 Entertainment Center started to show an interest in coming to the township. They hope it will bring attention and visitors to the business 28 area, said Township Administrator Jeff Wright.

Business 28 is the area along Old state Route 28 from Interstate 275 to Wolfpen Pleasant Hill Road, Wright said.

“The idea is that the pylon sign would serve those entertainment amenities that are in that district,” said Trustee Mary Makley Wolff.

Signage is a good tool to bring visitors in, Wolff said, especially since the parcel sits a little off the highway.

“We’re hoping that it’s going to jump-start some nice business redevelopment there,” Wolff said.

The sign will hopefully be installed in November. It will be about 60 feet tall with a 9 foot by 18 foot digital screen on it and will be located adjacent to Interstate 275 so drivers can see it before they reach the state Route 28 exit, Wright said.

Since the sign is digital, the township will be able to advertise more frequently and put more advertisements up than with a non-digital sign, Wright said.

The township put the sign construction out to bid and decided to purchase the sign from Klusty Sign Associates for $339,822, according to the resolution.

There has already been increased interest in development in the area since Scene75 bought the former Kmart, although it’s all still preliminary, Wright said.

“That’s a blessing of having such a high profile business as Scene75,” Wright said.

Wolff hopes that Scene75 will launch a redevelopment that makes business 28 into a type of entertainment district, she said.
