The second week of the high school football season was largely defined by weather, waiting on weather and then more weather. Clermont County and the surrounding areas were crushed by a deluge of rain and a night sky lit up by numerous lightening strikes on Friday, Sept. 4 forcing all area teams to postpone their games until Saturday.

All but one were able to be completed.

Milford 42, Dixie Heights 28: Trailing by 14 points at the half, Milford shut out the Colonels in the second half, scoring 28 unanswered points to come back and win the Eagles’ first game of the season.

Milford quarterback Tyler Smith went 20/35 for 256 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in the win. He also ran seven times for 35 yards and another score. Dawson Slone led the Eagles ground game, rushing 13 times for 70 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Ben Greenwell led the Milford receiving corps, catching six balls for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Jack Engelman also hauled in three passes for 32 yards and a score.

Milford (1-1) travels to Norwood (1-1) on Friday, Sept. 11 for a 7 p.m. kick.

New Richmond 33, Taylor 25: Holding a 17-9 halftime lead, Taylor squared things up with New Richmond in the third quarter thanks to a Evan Lamb touchdown and Kenaz Moore two-point conversion.

The Lions responded strongly thanks to a scoring run by TJ Gelter and a strong performance from senior Austin Torrens.

Gelter gave the Lions the lead back with a long touchdown run with just over three minutes remaining in the third quarter and Torrens put a cap on the game running in his second rushing touchdown of the game and following that up with a drive that culminated in a Torrens-kicked field goal.

Torrens, the Lions do-everything plug-and-play quarterback and place kicker, ran for two touchdowns, threw for another and kicked two field goals on the night.

New Richmond (1-1) hosts Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy (1-1) on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.

Glen Este 39, Winton Woods 33: A back-and-forth game that featured five lead changes ended up going Glen Este’s way as the Trojans scored with 1:59 to play to secure their second victory of the year.

Robby Boone, GE’s senior running back, had another big game rushing 29 times for 137 yards and three touchdowns. Boone also caught six passes for 111 yards and a touchdown. Jacob Hamilton caught five balls for 166 yards and a touchdown of his own.

Orchestrating the passing attack, Tyler Pilcher went 12/20 for 284 yards and two touchdowns against just one interception.

The Trojans (2-0) play a special Thursday night contest at Mount Healthy (1-1) on Sept. 10 beginning at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel Ohio.

Paint Valley 24, Williamsburg 21: With Burg up 14-0 in the second quarter, Paint Valley ran off 21 straight points and managed to strike last with a 26-yard field goal to seal a three-point victory.

Kurt Meisberger led the Wildcats in carries for the second week in a row, toting the rock 17 times for 86 yards and a touchdown. Spencer Clowery and Dawson Davis also got some run with Clowery rushing 13 times for 44 yards and Davis running nine times for 91 yards.

The Wildcats (1-1) will travel to Amelia (1-1) on Sept. 11 to play the Barons with kick off slated for 7 p.m.

Mariemont 35, Batavia 24: Playing as a part of the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown, the Batavia Bulldogs suffered their second loss of the season.

With the Bulldogs striking first on a Shaun Howe one-yard run, the Warriors scored the next 21 points to wrap up the half.

A strong start to the second half saw the Bulldogs pull within seven on a 79-yard touchdown run from Austin Maham, but that’s all the closer they would get.

Maham ended the game with 17 rushing attempts totaling 149 yards and a touchdown. Howe also rushed 12 times for 36 yards and a score. Ian Stamper made the most of his three rush attempts, gaining six yards and scoring a touchdown.

The Bulldogs (0-2) will host Fayetteville-Perry (1-0) on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.

Bethel-Tate at Fayetteville-Perry, PPD: The game was postponed indefinitely Saturday morning following the news that 2013 Fayetteville-Perry graduate and assistant middle school and varsity football coach Nate Allen was killed in a car crash.

According to Bethel-Tate Athletic Director Matt Koenig, a decision has yet to be made whether the game will be made up.

Bethel (0-1) will travel to Goshen (2-0) on Friday, Sept. 11 to face the Warriors. Kick off is at 7 p.m.
