Dear Editor,

On August 29th my wife and I attended the Clermont County Youth Football Association 7-year-old game between the Forest Hills Renegades and the host Batavia Bulldogs at Batavia Middle School in order to watch our grandson play. Because there was another game in progress when we arrived and parking is extremely limited, to say the least, we had great difficulty finding a parking space, but we finally found one on the periphery of the parking area that another driver had just vacated. We were not in a “lined parking spot” but were in no way blocking traffic.

There were no signs to indicate where it was illegal to park. We paid our money and entered the area to watch the game. Soon after our game began, the overly chatty PA announcer started making threats that those who were not in “lined parking spots” would have their cars towed. My wife had to leave and miss part of the game in order to move our car, and she observed someone in what looked like a golf cart putting tickets on cars, presumably marking them for the towing company! I think I speak for a “host” of parents and grandparents (to use the PA announcer’s favorite term) in saying that this is very rinky-dink stuff! Does the city of Batavia need money that badly? Either more “lined parking spots” need to be provided and illegal parking areas well defined, or else those who have parked in areas that do not block traffic should not be penalized by having their cars towed!
