The Miami Township Fire/EMS is one of the silver recognition Mission: Lifeline EMS award winners.

The program recognizes EMS teams for their role in giving timely care to people having a ST segment elevation myocardial infarction heart attack, the deadliest form, according to the American Heart Association website. Departments receiving a silver recognition must have attended to at least eight patients in 2014.

Miami Township was one of more than 50 departments in Ohio to receive any of the three award levels.

“Today we’re celebrating lives saved because of the hard work and dedication of the Miami Township Fire Department,” said Alexander Kuhn, American Heart Association senior director, quality and systems improvement.

The department is honored to be among those in the state receiving the award, Miami Township Chief Steve Kelly said in an email.

“Our goal is continual improvement, so we will continue to work to achieve the highest levels possible and will be aiming for the gold standard over the next year. We appreciate the support of our trustees and our partners in the area hospital systems as they work with us to provide this high level of patient care,” Kelly said.

The services in Miami Township are above average, said Trustee Mary Makely Wolff. She feels sometimes community members don’t realize how lucky they are.
