The Landing Restaurant and Marina, located along the Ohio River in New Richmond, opened under new ownership on July 1.

Business partners Dennis Hein and Peter Kambelos purchased the restaurant and bar, located at 401 Front St., from former owners Joseph and Judy Vogel.

“Pete and Dennis are great people to have in the village,” said Joseph Vogel. “We’re really happy for them to purchase the place.”

Kambelos said he and Hein are looking forward to taking over The Landing, which he called a New Richmond institution.

“We’re happy to take on the tradition and personalize it a little bit more over the next few years and make it something we can be even more proud of as an anchor to that end of the business district,” Kambelos said during a presentation to the New Richmond Village Council during meeting on July 14.

Hein and Kambelos both reside in nearby Pierce Township.

Hein, who grew up in Bridgetown, worked in medical administration for TriHealth before mov-ing into a full-time ownership role at The Landing.

Kambelos, an internal medical specialist with a private practice in Cincinnati, is from Maysville, where his parents owned a popular restaurant.

“I come from a restaurant family,” Kambelos said. “ My parents instilled in me to work hard, and they had a very successful business. I knew that this was eventually in my future, and I had to wait for the right opportunity to come along.”

Kambelos and Hein look forward to making some changes to The Landing that fit the evolving character of New Richmond’s waterfront.

“We want to partner with the village to help create an even more vibrant business district,” Kambelos said. “[People] have already worked very hard for many years, and we just want to follow in their footsteps and put in our little two cents worth and make it even better.”

Kambelos and Hein plan to improve the facilities at The Landing over time.

“Nothing’s going to happen overnight, but we are going to make some changes of which I think you’ll all be proud,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to putting out our docks, if and when the river goes down.”

Kambelos said he and Hein are nice and approachable people who are open to constructive criti-cism and suggestions.

“We’re very flexible and have nothing but the best interest of the village at heart. What’s good for us is good for the village and every single business owner and resident up and down Front Street and elsewhere,” he said.

“We’re happy to have the opportunity to be here doing business in New Richmond,” Kambelos added.
