Union Township will soon be home to the first Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers in Ohio, thanks to PSP Foods.

Matt Saunders, head of development, was introduced to Freddy’s in early 2014 and loved it, he said. Freddy’s has a good, fresh product and a family environment.

Saunders is looking to bring a Freddy’s into the Cincinnati, Dayton and Columbus markets, and the Union Township location will be the first.

“It’s been in the works for us for well over a year and a half,” Saunders said. He wanted to take his time and make sure he got a good location.

In addition, the Taco Bell, owned by RGT Foods, is Union Township is being moved next to Freddy’s, Saunders said.

The lease is coming up on the current location and Saunders decided to invest money into a better piece of property.

The new location will have a “Live Más” style, Saunders said.

The Union Township Trustees approved an overlay case to develop the two lots during their May 28 meeting.

Now the companies can apply for zoning permits, which can be issued immediately, said Cory Wright, zoning administrator.

Construction will begin soon, said Jonathan Evans, a civil engineer with Evans Engineering. It will take about 90 days to build the Taco Bell and a little longer to build the Freddy’s.

Saunders anticipates Taco Bell opening at the beginning of September and Freddy’s opening mid to late September.

“We can’t wait,” Saunders said.

The restaurants will be located at the corner of Ohio Pike and Waterford Parkway.
