The West Clermont Board of Education recently approved the appointment of the principal for the West Clermont High School.

Bob Walker, the current principal of Glen Este High School, will move into the WCHS principal role when the school opens in the fall of 2017, West Clermont Superintendent Keith Kline said at the board meeting on May 11.

In addition, the board also approved Stephanie Walker’s appointment as the director of student programs. Stephanie Walker is the principal at Amelia High School.

She will begin taking on director responsibilities over the next two years and will transition into the position full time when the high school opens, Kline said.

The director of student programs position will include programming for students on drug use, especially heroin. Kline hopes this will help prevent students from beginning to use.

“I appreciate the fact that you’re looking at a problem and not ignoring it,” said board member Tammy Brinkman. She feels that Stephanie Walker is very good at connecting with students and getting them to talk.

The current Amelia High School athletic director, James Collins, will become the WCHS athletic director, Kline said.

Dan Simmons, the Glen Este High School athletic director, will help Collins with responsibilities, take care of middle school athletics and work as District Facilities Coordinator, Kline said.

Administrators, teachers and support staff are currently working on plans for the new high school, said Kline in a release. Those plans include engineering and chemistry labs, computer labs, science labs and additional safety and security measures.

West Clermont Local School District officials announced plans to merge Glen Este and Amelia middle and high schools during a meeting Jan. 5, and the district will be working with Union Township trustees to sell existing property and build a new school.
