The Annual Southwest Ohio Perennial School held April 9 drew a big crowd to the 4-H Hall at the Owensville Fairground with their great variety of topics. Come and join us next year! The 21st Perennial School is scheduled tentatively for April 14, 2016.
Ohio State University Extension Clermont County hosted the 21st Annual Southwest Ohio Perennial School April 9th at the Clermont County Fairground’s 4-H Hall.

The event, attended by 90 guests, centered on five educational presentations with a tradeshow featuring eleven regional vendors and gardening organizations.

This year’s educational topics included Perennial Vegetable Gardening – Asparagus & Rhubarb with Gigi Neal, our own Agriculture & Natural Resources Educator; Pruning and Maintaining Your Shrubs with Cindy Meyer of Butler County, OSU Extension Educator Agriculture and Natural Resources; The Concept of Cover: Managing Structure and Aquatic Plants in Ohio Ponds with Eugene Braig, OSU Extension, School of Environment and Natural Resources; Replacement Trees for your Southwest Ohio Landscape with Wendi Van Buren, Urban Forester, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry; and When the Garden Takes Flight: Attracting Pollinators with Perennials with Denise Ellsworth, Program Director, Honey Bee and Native Pollinator Education, OSU Extension and Department of Entomology.

Eleven vendors participated in this year’s tradeshow: Clermont County Master Gardener Volunteers, Clermont Soil & Water Conservation District, B.C. Nursery, Valley of the Daylilies, Clermont County Farm Bureau, Greater Cincinnati Wild Ones Chapter, Ken’s Unique Birdhouses, Sycamore Farm Herbs & Crafts, Herbs & Such Enthusiasts, The Flower Bed, and Bethel Feed & Supply.

The 22nd Southwest Ohio Perennial School is scheduled tentatively for April 14, 2016.

Clermont Extension is a non-formal education branch of OSU. The office merges needs of local citizens with OSU’s research through four focus areas: Family & Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, Agriculture & Natural Resources and Community Development.
