Denise Amiot’s love for teaching is evident in the way she speaks about it.

Amiot is the assistant principal at Amelia High School and an adjunct professor at Xavier University. She has been in education for over 30 years, during which time she has been featured in the Sterling Registry of Executives and Professionals and Top 101 Industry Experts Insights and Ideas to Inspire You.

Amiot started in special education, where she taught at a variety of grade levels before becoming a special education supervisor and then moved into administration.

She is currently working on her doctorate in teaching and learning leadership, she said.

One of the most important things to Amiot is making a difference in students’ lives and helping them be successful, she said.

“I have never met someone so dedicated in the way she helps each and every students she comes in contact with,” Teacher Julie Brock said.

Her biggest struggle in education is finding a strategy that will make a student who are having difficulties succeed, Amiot said. She tells her students that good things take awhile and to take baby steps.

Amiot hopes to impress upon students the importance of education. She encourages students to continue their education because it can help them achieve their dreams.

Amiot lights up when she talks about students. She can’t imagine not being involved in a school.

“Being with kids and being with teachers, it’s the greatest thing ever,” Amiot said. She believes teaching is the greatest profession one could be in.

Her greatest success as a teacher is when a student or a parent tells her thank you. One student in particular told her that she was fair, firm and treated him with respect, Amiot said.

Amiot also loves her job at Xavier because she is teaching undergraduate and graduate students who are going into teaching. Teachers help move students forward, so if she supports teachers they will support their students, she feels.

“It’s just fun,” Amiot said.
