Great American Ball Park will be getting three new signs for the 2015 Cincinnati Reds baseball season, replacing those located over the main gates on Crosley Terrace, the sign on top of the scoreboard and the sign on the southwest corner of the ballpark.

The new signs will be paid for by Great American Insurance Group, as part of their naming rights sponsorship of Great American Ball Park thereby relieving the Cincinnati Reds and Hamilton County from having to fund the sign replacement.

The new signs will use modern, energy-efficient LED lighting that will significantly reduce power consumption and maintenance requirements.

The removal of the existing signs is beginning today (Feb. 24, 2015) and the installation of the new signage is to be completed by Opening Day on April 6, 2015.

“Hosting the 2015 MLB All-Star Game sparked discussions about the merits of a signage update. We are fortunate to have partners like Great American Insurance Group who are committed to keeping our ballpark looking its best,” said Reds COO Phil Castellini.

To enhance visibility, the new signs will have a slightly different look. The original signage designed with blue letters on a white background will be replaced with signage using white letters on a blue background. The two Great American Ball Park signs outside the ballpark will include the Great American Insurance Group name underneath the ballpark’s name. The scoreboard sign inside the ballpark will read Great American Insurance Group.

“We believe Great American Ball Park is the best name on the best venue in Major League Baseball,” said Carl H. Lindner III, Co-CEO of Great American’s parent company, American Financial Group.

“However, the name is so fitting that some people don’t make the connection between Great American Ball Park and Great American Insurance Group,” added S. Craig Lindner, AFG Co-CEO. “The new signage allows us to better showcase our Great American Insurance Group brand and our corporate headquarters building located across the street from the ballpark.”

United-Maier Signs, Inc. of Cincinnati has been retained to fabricate and install the new signage.

During the installation process, portions of Mehring Way will be closed to accommodate the cranes necessary to lift the new signs into place.
