Batavia Township Trustees selected roads that they want to be paved as part of the Clermont County Road Resurfacing Program this year.

Service Director Kenneth Embry presented the roads during trustees’ March 2 meeting, which include Greenbriar Road from the water treatment plan to state Route 32, part of Shaker Meadows subdivision, and Lucy Run Cemetery.

To select the roads, Embry said he reviewed the condition of the roads, the age, when they were last paved, traffic count for the roads, and estimated future use.

Paving Greenbriar will cost around $160,000. The Shaker Meadows roads, including Greenbrook Drive and Driftwood Court, will cost around $41,000 and the cemetery will cost around $5,000.

Embry said the cemetery paving will come out of the cemetery fund.

“I’d like to add it onto the project,” Embry said.

The total project will be $208,3470 with about $5,000 coming from the cemetery fund.

Trustees decided to participate in the county resurfacing program despite some issues with the program last year, including delays in paving.

Last year after concerns with the program, Clermont County Engineer Patrick Manger said they wanted to improve things for 2015.

More jurisdictions participated in the program last year than in previous years and a couple of townships were late getting information to the county, Manger said last year.

“It cost in time and we didn’t see the savings we had in the past,” Manger said last year.

Manger said that for 2015, the engineer’s office would be implementing stricter deadlines for jurisdictions that want to participate in the road resurfacing program.

“We’re trying to get information from trustees by the first of March,” he said last year.

Trustee Jim Sauls suggested at the trustees’ February meeting going with the county once more because they are trying to get the problems worked out.

Embry said the township will save money going with the county.

“I think this is the best bang for our buck to keep with the $200,000 budget,” Embry said.
