A day later than scheduled, the Goshen girls bowling team punched their ticket to Beaver-Vu Lanes and the Southwest Ohio Division II District Tournament last week, reaching the district round for the second consecutive year.

“Actually, all of (the girls) bowled really well,” Goshen head coach Shirley Reynolds said. “We had a few good high games and we were in second place until the very last Baker game. We dropped to third, but that still qualified them to districts.”

The Lady Warriors’ third-place finish was easily inside the top-5 needed to move upstate. Finishing with a 2863, Goshen ended up below only Roger Bacon (3067) and Cincinnati Christian (2915) in Colerain Lanes sectional.

Bishop Fenwick and Seven Hills also advanced as a team.

Featuring an experienced roster, Reynolds pointed to the 2014 sectional tournament as a harbinger for this season’s success.

“Most of them bowled in (the sectional) last year, so they knew what they were going into and what to expect,” Reynolds said.

A trio of upperclassmen led the way for the Lady Warriors on Friday, Feb. 20, paced by senior Hanna Schafer. Schafer bowled a three-game series of 470, which was fourth overall individually, buttressed by a 181 high game.

Just behind Schafer in fifth place overall was classmate Bailey Rodgers with a 463 series and 184 high game. Junior Shelby Wilson rolled a 431 series with a 151 high game and freshman Josie Rodgers threw a 425 series, including a 152 high game.

The Lady Warriors will be in a unique situation on Thursday, Feb 26 when they bowl in the district tournament as Reynolds will not be on site due to the boys team rolling in the Division I sectional that same day. However, she expects the experience gained not only in the tournament last year, but also this past week to give the Lady Warriors the chance to represent the red and white in Columbus.

“If they can keep a level head, pay attention and take their time I’m hoping they can make it as a team,” Reynolds said. “If not, I’d hope to see at least three of them go as individuals.”
