Brook Lou Lorthioir (nee Nielsen), 69, of Loveland, died Feb. 14.

Lorthioir was born on December 30, 1945, in Jamaica, New York, to Anna Marie and Gerald Nielsen. She graduated from Richmond Hill High School in New York City, New York, in 1963, where she was a member of the school swimming team. She especially loved and enjoyed synchronized swimming.

A 1967 graduate of Syracuse University with a BS in Social Work, Lorthioir later attended the University of New York where she earned an Associate Degree in Nursing. She was first employed at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, and later worked for the New York Department of Public Welfare Services. Lorthioir ‘s private ventures included renovating houses on Long Island, and ownership of a Long Island bridal shop and a New York City bridal veil shop.

She married Jack Lorthioir on October 2, 1988, on Long Island, New York, and the couple resided in Stony Brook, Long Island. In 1991, Lorthioir and Jack moved to Ohio where Lorthioir worked as a Licensed Social Worker in Clermont County’s Adult Protective and Children Services Departments.   Upon retirement, she became Compliance Director for Clossman Catering in Butler County, Ohio. Lorthioir was also a consultant in her late son Ian’s Acres Lawn Care business. Lorthioir loved swimming, sail boating, and especially enjoyed relaxing by the ocean.  She was respected, loved and admired by her co-workers, and was in great demand for her artistic floral arrangements, her spectacular gift wrapping, and her creative scrapbooking projects.

She was devoted to the rescue and care of animals, and nurtured her many pet dogs and cats.  Lorthioir ‘s hobbies included gardening, floral arrangements, stained glass, reading and sewing.

She is survived by husband Jack and grandson Corey Herdtner.

Lorthioir was preceded in death by her parents and her son Ian.
