The West Clermont Board of Education is reaching out to the community for input. The district created a community engagement committee during a Jan. 27 meeting.

Superintendent Dr. Keith Kline suggested the committee be created to work with community members as the district moves forward with plans for the merger of Amelia and Glen Este. That will include building a new high school in the district.

“We’ve been working on community engagement over the last couple of weeks,” Superintendent Dr. Keith Kline said. “We’re getting a lot of positive feedback from parents.”

Kline continued, “I’d like a committee to be formed around community engagement to wrestle with the issues like branding and the historical piece and sponsorships.”

The district is already receiving suggestions about future colors, mascots, and more.

Board members also want to be able to carry the history of the separate schools into the new building.

Board Vice President Steve Waldmann suggested Tammy Brinkman, board member, serve on the committee.

“I think Tammy does a great job,” Waldmann said.

Board President John Bantjes also agreed to be a committee member.

Bantjes said creating ad hoc committees for the merger and new building is a good idea.

“We’ve got a whole lot of pieces,” Bantjes said. “We don’t want standing committees. With short term committees we can get a lot done.”
