Two Miami Township firefighter paramedics were recognized at the Miami Township Trustees meeting for their excellent work.

On Jan. 20, Miami Township Fire Chief Steve Kelly gave Distinguished Service Awards to Bill Doss and Dana Smith for their work in helping to save a women’s life on Dec. 25, 2014.

A 50-year-old woman was driving on Five Mile Road when she became very sweaty, pulled the car over and became unresponsive, Kelly said.

Her boyfriend got out of the car and tried to get assistance.

Doss and Smith were in an ambulance returning from training when they saw the boyfriend calling for help. They turned around and came back, where they found that the woman was unresponsive, Kelly said.

Both firefighters worked to resuscitate the woman and get her on life support, Kelly said. The Anderson Fire Department then transported her to Anderson Hospital, where doctors found a large blockage in her right coronary artery.

The woman was discharged after three days with no deficits, Kelly said.
