Amelia Village Council members promoted Charles Saylor from part-time to full-time police officer Jan. 13.

Saylor was hired by the village in September of last year as a part-time officer. He said at the time that he was excited to begin working in the village.

“He’s taking over the position for Janice Lovins,” Amelia Mayor Todd Hart said about the promotion.

Lovins retired from her position, Hart said. Lovins announced to council last year that she had cancer and would be receiving treatments. The police department held 5K and fund-raiser to help Lovins with her medical expenses last year.

The village currently has four full-time and two part-time officers, Hart said.

Council members are still in the process of hiring a new police chief after former chief David Friend left in November, Hart said.

“We’ve received applicants and have narrowed it down to four,” Hart said about the process.

Currently, Sergeant Jeff Wood is serving as interim chief for the village.

Hart said they are also looking to hire additional part time officers.

“We advertised for part-time officers a couple weeks ago and have been receiving applications,” Hart said.
