Albert Shelton “Dutch” Lanham, 86, of North Vernon, Ind., died Dec. 27 at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville, Ind..

Lanham worked as an orderly for Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati for 16 years and for one year at Kings Daughter Hospital. He also worked at Madison State Hospital for 23 years retiring November 30, 1993 as an attendant. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #581 and Masonic Lodge in Batavia, the Jefferson Presbyterian Church in Canaan, Eastern Star in Bennington Ind., and Batavia, Oh earning a 50-year ring for both the Masonic and Eastern Star services.

His hobbies included collecting stamps and coins, gardening, coon hunting, farming, and raising his own meat, Euchre and being around people. He also helped run the Rail Road Days Festival in North Vernon from 1994-2000.

He is survived by his sons Mark (Sonja) Lanham, Grant (Tammy) Lanham, Violet (Jack) Handlon, step-son Roy Staples, step-daughters Rosalie Harper and Sara (Ty) Speer, siblings Kenny (Joyce) Lanham and Virgil (Charlotte) Lanham and Fern Melton and Anna Faye (Richard) Little, 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Florence Henry Lanham, first wife Elizabeth May “Betty” Mark, second wife Betty Jean Gabbard, brother Paul Lanham, sister Vivian Lanham and step-son John Staples.

Visitation 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. services at Dove—Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home. Interment at Vernon Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites. Memorials to Jefferson Presbyterian Church.
